TECHNICAL GUIDE

Rock drilling buckets: shell size, cutting teeth and selection

A rock drilling bucket combines a cutting base with a shell that collects excavated material. This makes spoil collection part of the selection decision, alongside formation hardness, bore support and the drilling method. It is different from a cleaning bucket used to collect loose material at the bore bottom.

How to specify the right configuration

The reference table separates drilling diameter from shell diameter and lists shell length, thickness, teeth and weight. Check each column rather than choosing on drilling diameter alone. The listed standard Kelly box is 200 × 200 mm; pin geometry and engagement still need confirmation.

Assembly review and inspection

Provide the rig model, ground profile, bore diameter and operating depth. Include the required cutting arrangement and discharge mechanism in the drawing review. Inspect the base, hinge and locking components using the manufacturer's procedure; changing teeth does not correct an unsuitable shell or worn connection.

What needs confirming for a rock bucket?

Send the bore diameter, cutting teeth, shell and bottom arrangement, rig model and ground information. The listed standard Kelly box is 200×200 mm; other specifications are available upon customer request.

Preparing a quotation request in Saudi Arabia

  • Identify the rig model, product, quantity and application; include the ground profile when specifying a cutting tool.
  • Send a dimensioned drawing or clearly scaled photos. Identify mating components and distinguish measured dimensions from estimates.
  • State the delivery city, required date and project documentation requirements. Confirm the included components before ordering.
